Trained from childhood by his ex-cop father to observe and remember far more than the average person, Shawn Spencer employs his skills to identify criminals and their methods in the news, and calls crime tip lines for the reward. This backfires on him when he is arrested as an accomplice. To avoid jail time and continue his lucrative-but-lazy crimebusting, Shawn cons the Police into thinking he has psychic powers. When they hire him as a “psychic consultant”, he drags along his best friend Gus - who’s far more practical and has a job in pharmaceutical sales - and help the Police solve crimes, usually in comically inappropriate ways.
